APPLETON - Bright, cheery surroundings will greet patients at the new Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley. Floor-to-ceiling windows that let the sun stream in, a fireplace in the atrium and waterfall in the main lobby are among the special features. A floor plan requires far fewer steps than more traditional settings like a hospital. "We've designed the building to be very open, with features to be very comforting for patients because there's a lot of anxiety around when they come," said Jim Padley, executive director of the Fox Valley Orthopedic Surgeons Association.
Padley hosted a tour Thursday of the center that will be home to nine physicians from three practices. They will work together in the new 51,000 sq-ft building and share advanced digital equipment and surgical suites, but they will maintain separate practices. They will be joined by Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, a provider of comprehensive orthopedic physical and occupational therapy, which will move its west Appleton location to the new facility.
Services provided will include hip and knee replacements, trauma/emergency fracture care, sports-related injury care, arthroscopic surgery and MRIs. "It's going to give us an opportunity to bring together the various services that orthopedists need to provide patient care and put it under one roof," said Dr. Jack Lindstrom, Appleton. Lindstrom, who has a solo practice, will share the facility with doctors from Valley Orthopedic Clinic and Orthopedic Clinic of Appleton in the new $8.9 million facility to open in early May.
Dr. David Kuplic of Valley Orthopedic Clinic said the clinic is convenient for patients because it can meet all their needs in one building. Jim Hans of Miron Construction, the Menasha-based general contractor, said mockups of examination rooms the firm built had to pass muster of the physicians, one of the special steps taken during the planning stages.
